DO YOU WONDER WHY WE HAVE POVERTY WHEN WE HAVE THE MEANS TO GENERATE ABUNDANCE FOR EVERYONE? IT IS THE THESIS OF THIS SITE THAT THE WORLD IS A RATIONAL PLACE, AND IF WE HAVE POVERTY WE ARE DOING SOMETHING TO GENERATE IT. THIS SITE IS DEDICATED TO WHY WE ARE CREATING POVERTY AND HOW WE CAN USE THE LAWS OF ECONOMICS TO WIPE IT OUT.

, FUTURE PERFECT. A novel. It may be difficult for the casual visitor to visualize what a society would be like that adopted the economics of the Free Labor Market. So I have written a novel in which which our hero is set down in a future where the Free Labor Market has been in place for 100+ years. To make it more than just a treatis on economics, it is also a mystery. Our hero while discovering the New World must also solve his own murder.

. ABOUT THE AUTHOR.. Who am I, and why do I think I know anything about wiping out poverty?
One of the great conundrums of 20th Century economics, is why, in a culture with the technology fully capable of providing abundance for all, does poverty persist? Some economic theories blame it on the Capitalist system: It is the greed of the capitalist exploiters. Others blame the poor themselves: They don't have the skills or the mental attitude to succeed. Still others blame the government: We need a welfare system that provides people with the economic security that their earning capacity doesn't provide.
It is the thesis of this website that the world is rational and everything has a logical cause. If poverty persists, then there is something in our economic structure that is causing it to persist. Obviously I have an answer, or I wouldn't be publishing it here. I call it the Free Labor Market, though a better title might be the Free Market in Labor, since the long and short of my theory is that contrary to popular opinion our labor market does not operate as a free market, or at least free enough to eliminate unemployment and poverty. There are historical reasons why it does not, or rather why people won't let it. My thesis is that if the labor market were allowed to operate as a purely free market, unemployment and poverty, which are purely artificial constructs, would automatically disappear. The first page of this site sets forth my theory in detail.
As fond as I am of my theory, I am not so vain as to insist that I have all the world's wisdom about economics. There may very well be something that I have failed to see that renders my theory invalid. Or maybe the reader simply doesn't understand it. Therefore the second page of this site is given over to a chat room where the visitor is invited to record his or her own comments, questions, revisions or demurs.
Finally, since I realize it may be difficult for the average intelligent person to imagine a world in which my economic system might prevail, I have written a novel set 130 years in the future in which the system is well established and taken for granted. It is based upon the premise of Bellamy's Looking Backward , that a person from today is frozen in suspended animation for the years between and wakes up and observes the new order from the eyes of someone thoroughly grounded in the old order. And so that the story is something more than the dry exposition of the essay on Page One, I have included a romance and a murder mystery.
I want this site to be a thorough exploration of the American and the world economy, so the third page is an invitation to others to submit their own essays on economics and the modern world. These essays may expand my ideas, contradict them, or present alternative economies. I reserve the right to comment, and the reader is free to do so in the chat room. Nothing too technical, please. This is a site for concerned amateurs.
So please enter with an open mind and let's learn about the economy together. Please contact me at editor@wipeoutpoverty.com
